A high-level Union executive, the Ace-AFSCME Local 2250 and the Prince George’s County Public Schools are currently being sued by a former Employee Ms.Antoinette Murphy who worked in the school system under a bully supervisor Mr. Palmer. According to the complaint currently in progress in Federal court; Ms. Murphy is accusing her union, former boss, Maryland State Department of Education and others of sexual harassment and other threats at the job.
In the case which has been going on for two years now, the complaint states that, Mr. Palmer, was employed by Prince George’s County public schools as a supervisor with the authority to hire discipline and fire employees, but intentionally discriminated against plaintiff in violation of Title VII by subjecting plaintiff (Ms. Murphy) to quid pro quo sexual harassment.
The complaint specifically, alleges that Mr. Palmer discriminated against plaintiff (Ms. Murphy) by threatening Plaintiff (Ms. Murphy) with termination if she did not give in to his sexual advances.
Mr. Palmer forced the Plaintiff (Ms. Murphy) to meet with him on a daily basis throughout the course of his supervision in order to control, harass and intimidate her, according to the complaint filed in Greenbelt Federal Court, Maryland.
Ms. Murphy is seeking monetary as well as punitive damages. The lawsuit also names Verjeana M. Jacobs, Esq (Previous Board Chair person) as a defendant.
In the complaint, Ms. Murphy further states that, Mr. Palmer’s actions were reported to the supervisor Mr. Reginal Wilks and management official Mr. Homesley but they failed to act. She further accused Mr. Palmer of subjecting her to harassment based upon her sex, who treated Ms. Murphy in a humiliating and derogatory manner, made inappropriately statements, and engaged in other misconduct that was targeted and directed at Ms. Murphy based upon her sex and the fact that she refused his advances. The lawsuit alleges that the Prince George’s County public school’s human resources personnel (PGCPS HR) refused to conduct an investigation when she complained about her direct supervisor’s advances and the union failed to represent.
Instead, according to the complaint, Ms. Murphy has been threatened with termination in Prince George’s County Public schools, the latest being 2010 and 2011. The cover up of the misconduct continues as business as usual at Sasscer Administrative Building under the current Baker regime being affronted by his brother in law to the county Executive (Dr. Segun Eubanks) who has been laughing all the way to the bank in recent months. >>> Read more Complaint -ACE-AFSCME LOCAL 2250
As the Prince George’s county in the State of Maryland falls short of $62.5millions, the county officials pictured below and others who are currently squandering more than $18 million from the children reserve fund are crying wolf. This is unacceptable and it should not be overlooked. These officials and others involved in the scam must be held to account for this unethical practice. Fighting corruption is a global concern because this is a crime that affects both rich and poor countries. However, it also harms people disproportionately, causing major damage precisely to those who are the most vulnerable. Everyone can be a victim of corruption. We all pay its price. Here in Prince George’s County, we must say no to this practice irrespective of the players involved in the practice.
