Arrogant BOE Chair finally cornered with corruption.

###

Upper Marlboro: Prince George’s County Public Schools (Pgcps) BOE Chairwoman Ms.Verjeana Jacobs is to be voted out this November 2012 for engaging in acts of corruption such as misappropriation of funds and bribery while ignoring the welfare of the students and staff. We at the Reform Sasscer movement are calling on Attorney General  of the state of Maryland to investigate and bring to an end the corruption going on in the Sasscer Administration building – Upper Marlboro.

Ms. Jacobs is not acting alone, while engaging in the aforementioned corruption. Ms. Verjeana Jacobs is acting along with Dr. William Hite, Roger Thomas, Sythia Shillings and others.  For the betterment of the students in Prince George’s County Public Schools, “We must end the culture of corruption. Create transparency and accountability in many ways for the betterment of  this ancient old land” said one anonymous employee.

If Ms. Verjeana Jacobs comes knocking on your door this election season ask her the following 12 questions:

  1. Why is she corrupt?
  2. Why does she allow certain administrators including Dr. Hite to practice corruption and get away with it?
  3. Why is the suspension rate so high in PGCPS? Suspended students in turn become a problem to the community.
  4. Why did she take a bribe in form of a political contribution from thatcher law firm ($8,000) and then reward the same law firm $5 million? (Read more).
  5. Why allow corporations to take advantage of student budget?
  6. Why rubber stamp everything Dr. Hite says?
  7. Why conduct BOE meetings in expensive hotels and resorts in the middle of the day when most parents are at work?
  8. How come she has no respect for the youth?
  9. Why is discrimination and sexual harassment so rampant under her watch?
  10. Why allow senior staff to smooch in the closet while the poor kids suffer?
  11. Why allow her husband (Mr. David A. Jacobs) to drive drunk on several occassions while endangering the public?
  12. Why mix school system issues with that of her reckless spouse Mr. David A. Jacobs?

The list is endless. But you can always combine your own questions and post them in our blog. We must innovate, transform and change PGCPS for good!

  1. Most of the foolwangery in our school system is happening because of the Broad Group superintendents being forced on us. We need a REAL superintendent, not one of Eli Broad’s flunkies. Hite is doing and allowing the same idiocy Rhee pulled off in DC. He added 16 six-figure instructional directors after they did it in DC. How many teachers could have been saved with that money?

Why did we excuse him when he stood on television with that silly nervous grin when high school schedules were not ready? He said had he known schedules were not ready, he would have given the kids a few more days off. Really Bill? Really? Why did he not know?

Check to see how many fellow Kappas he has promoted or fails to hold accountable. Then ask why the Board is not supervising him. Look at how many six-figure Broad Fellows have been hired. It is alleged that Briant Coleman is Broad Deputy Supt. Bonita COLEMAN Potter’s relative. Really Bill? Lawrence Fryer was Broad too, and he figured prominently in the costlyWashington Plaza fiasco according to Board notes. Though that was Mr. Deasy, Hite was here too.

Look at a lot of the young women he hires as administrators. Notice how most are light skinned. Notice how many have the same features — long hair, big butts, smiles. Dr. Jackie Brown commented about how young they look at a welcome reception the Board had. There is nothing wrong with looking young but skills and experience are important accessories too.

Why did they censure Edward Burroughs for investigating complaints about cheating and manipulating attendance rates, only to cover it up later by firing that principal over a food fight? Seriously?

When Hite interviews prospective principals, why is one of his initial questions ‘How many teachers did you fire at your last assignment?’ Really Bill?

  2. I agree with you, “Broad Group superintendents being forced on us. We need a REAL superintendent, not one of Eli Broad’s flunkies”. I have watched Dr. William Hite in the last several months and we are completely dissapointed. The man was appointed corruptly and he wants to stay corruptly. What a shame. Voters needs to change the dynamics and elect young people for the better.

On another note, Unmentioned by the washingtonpost reporter (obviously) is that all the candidates endorsed by the Washington Post (probably Rhee lover Jo Ann Armao) LOST.
One loser was Henry Armwood, a former parent liaison at Charles Flowers HS, who would berate people at meetings and on Twitter.

He had the brilliant idea to close the school libraries and have students take a monthly field trip to get a book from the public library. I can just imagine the high school in his district, Dr. Wise, descending upon the Upper Marlboro branch.

    • There are 47 Broad superintendents in 25 states. Google what has happened in these Broad districts: Charlotte, Wake Forest, Baltimore, DC, Seattle, Rochester, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia and some of the districts in suburban Atlanta. Arne Duncan, in my opinion one of the WORST Secretaries of Education in American history, is a Broad alumni. Duncan lost at least two federal discrimination suits for firing a disproportionate number of black teachers and teachers over forty when he was over Chicago’s schools.

PGCPS has the Broad virus for sure. Hite and Coleman-Potter, our superintendent and deputy superintendent, are both Broad. Both are allegedly job hunting, Coleman-Potter having made the final three in Atlanta. Hite has not allegedly advanced to a final committee, though he is said to be interviewing. There are other Broad Fellows on the payroll at central office.

When the Washington Plaza fiasco went down, we had Mr. “Questionable PhD” Deasy as superintendent. Lawrence Fryer and Hite were here during that time too. Deasy pranced around town lobbying for Washington Plaza but weaseled out once the legislators threatened money would be withheld. Deasy was no prize but he was a lot more savvy than Hite, who is in over his head.

We have a bloated central office. Money is being spent foolishly. Google Broad District Virus and see what you come up with!

The School Board has its antics too. One board member allegedly masquerades as Brenda Russell when she sends out emails on listservs criticizing the board. That is odd at best.

The Board Chair’s husband has allegedly been seen trotting around meeting with Christian Rhodes, Rushern “Three Times to Win” Baker’s education liaison. He has also allegedly been seen lunching with Briant Coleman, the school system’s Chief Communication Officer. How is that appropriate? Isn’t that the Chair’s job? What business would her husband, former lobbyist to PG County Council, just happen to have with the county education liaison and the chief communication officer?

Since we are talking about the Chair’s husband, let’s talk Washington Plaza. According to the Post, the Ricker Brothers developed the Westphalia Project and Washington Plaza. David Jacobs was their lobbyist at the time. Chairwoman Jacobs received a $1,000 campaign contribution. Pieces coming together?

  3. If age were a true indicator of capability in Prince George’s County than Jack Johnson and his wife, Uysess Currie and Nat Exum wouldn’t all be tangled with the law. It appears Ms. Verjeana Jacobs is headed there.

However, a fresh perspective is probably the best thing for Prince George’s County. The young men and women elected this week aren’t part of the political machine that has produced levels of corruption nearly unheard of in the region. They’re running for the right reasons and have some valuable first hand experience. Plus anyone who has ever worked in government knows that they have a comptent staff to handle budgeting decisions so they’re focusing on broad policy decisions. Finally, a positive turn of events for Prince George’s County. Let us vote for them again in November 2012.

    • How is Nat Exum entangled? I know his daughter Camille was alleged to have been in something too when she was on County Council. She and some of the others in that pay to play scandal the Post covered have virtually disappeared.

      • Nat Exum was a very corrupt leader. His daughter did the dirty foot work for him. We are not surprised if Rushen Baker is not involved. The pay to play scandal is way too much. Time has come to clean up the county. Maia you seem to know this stuff, How did you get involved?

      • Joshua, as a county resident, I am as sick of this mess as you are. It’s ridiculous to have all of this corruption with basically nothing being done.

I know lots of people who work for the county. They tell me things the average person wouldn’t believe.

  4. Why does Chair Jacobs suddenly feel the need to have a community engagement breakfast? She hasn’t reached out for 6 years. Who is paying for this? The invite went out from PGCPS. Why did she invite Principals & Asst. Principals in District 5? Why invite members of a union that did not endorse or support you? The only reason is to try to get to the members in an attempt to undermine the solidarity of the union. The Board and Administration have been attacking this union for years. Ths is just another try to break this union. It will not work. The members are fed up & too smart. Mrs. Jacobs, your desperation is showing.

    • We feel the same way. The Principals and Assistant Principals invited for this breakfast meeting is another desperate attempt to use them as a campaign tool for her re-election. They must say “NO”. Ms. Jacobs is now trying to buy politically connected groups of people with the help of Dr. William Hite to her advantage. The scheme must be exposed and broadcasted.

      • The turn out was so- so. The few people who came were motivated by free breakfast than anything else and not support for Ms. Jacobs. Dr. Hite seemed frightened and bewildered.
